ISP West showcase hero image

Opportunity

ISP WEST specializes in air cooled Volkswagens, they restore cars, import / export cars, manufacture replacement parts and sell new parts. In 2008, ISP West was referred to Wired Studios to help them with their new printed catalog. The printed catalog was a huge undertaking. Building the catalog from scratch meant that all imagery had to be created since photography wasn't an option (1000's of car parts in this case). The approach at the time was to scan hundreds of old 1960's books and manually clean them up in photoshop and redraw many parts in illustrator. It took over a year to accomplish this task. After finally finishing the printed catalog, ISP West wanted to capitalize on all the hard work that it took to create the printed catalog and bring it online. The new site was to become an e-commerce solution as well as the central point for managing inventory. ISP old site was built using Pearl and was lacking everything.

Strategy & Planning

Wired Studios' Creative Director, Joe Garcia served as lead designer and strategist for this project. Since Joe Garcia had created the printed catalog single handed, he has a deep understanding of the material and the assets he created. PHP Developer Guillermo Alvarez assisted in the customization of the shopping cart software, X-Cart. The strategy was to make the website a complementary tool to the printed catalog as well as provide a platform to purchase car parts. Therefore; the naming, navigation and chronological organization would be derived from the printed catalog.

Solution

During a massive 24 week effort, Wired Studios overcame multiple obstacles since we had never worked with this amount of data before. The result was a elegant solution that was well received by its target audience. The new site performs smoothly and has allowed ISP West to grow steadily year after year with sales close to $500,000.
